How to start a YouTube channel from scratch

If you are wondering whether it is too late to start a YouTube channel in 2021, it definitely is not.

Thinkwithgoogle shared some interesting statistics indicating that 6 out of 10 people prefer watching online video platforms to live TV. They also shared that in an average month, 8 out of 10 18-to-49-year-olds, watch YouTube.

I am sure that you can agree, that there is definitely an audience on YouTube and, because it is free, the barriers to entry for content consumers are low, making it attractive for new creators.

This said it is no easy journey to "making it" on YouTube. However, there is always room for creators who are able to bring something fresh to the platform.

If you are looking for YouTube channel ideas, you can read my blog post on that for some further inspiration.

But now, let's talk about how to start a YouTube channel in 20201.

There are a few checkboxes you want to tick off:

Paying attention to the points below will help you focus on laying a solid foundation for your YouTube channel.

  1. You want to ensure that you have a Gmail account,

  2. Add a profile photo to your YouTube channel,

  3. Varify your phone number so that you can create custom thumbnails,

  4. Tick off the basic settings like adding channel tags, and your location.

You can watch the video below for a step-by-step guide on how to do this and where to find the setting in the navigation bar.

Final Thoughts

Know your "why" behind starting your YouTube channel.

As I mentioned in the video, if it is to get famous, it is unlikely that you will find success in the short-term. However, if it is to provide value, you are likely to find a small audience after a few months of consistently posting content.

Create content with a specific person in mind, as this will guide you to create a concise piece of content.

Enable your marathon mindset because it took me 10 months to get monetized on YouTube and only in my 12th month did I get my first paycheck.

It is a journey, but if content creation is what you are passionate about, then you may find yourself enjoying the journey far more than you originally expected.
